Day 3 London. Morning sightseeing with
a professional London guide includes all the famous landmarks:
Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace and the area's splendid
museums, Knightsbridge with Harrods, the Houses of Parliament
and Big Ben beside the River Thames, and Westminster Abbey.
Highlights are a visit to ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL and the Changing
of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, if held. Time in the
afternoon for independent activities. Optional excursions are
available to the Tower of London and to Windsor Castle. Tonight

Day 4 London-Paris, France. Meet your
tour director and traveling companions and depart London. Drive
through the orchards of Kent and then enjoy an exciting
Hoverspeed ride across the Channel to France. Memories of some
of the fiercest World War I battles come alive on the way
through Picardy and the Somme to Paris, the splendid capital of
a beautiful country. Tonight join your tour director for a toast

Day 5 Paris. See the sights on both
banks of the Seine: Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, Louvre,
Champs-Elysées... For a bird's-eye view take the elevator to the
first floor of the EIFFEL TOWER. Of course you also visit Paris'
greatest treasure, the Gothic cathedral of NOTRE DAME with its
gleaming stained-glass windows. Balance of the day at leisure
and lots to do. Optional excursions are available to the Louvre
or to the palace and gardens of Versailles, and after dark a
lively cabaret show might be just the ticket. (BB)
Day 6 Paris-Lucerne, Switzerland. A
comfortable ride on the highway skirting Fontainebleau Forest
and the vineyards of Burgundy. Cross the Swiss border near Basle
and enjoy vistas of tidy villages and prosperous dairy farms on
the way to picture-book Lucerne. (BB,D)
Day 7 Lucerne. Sightseeing feautures
the LION MONUMENT, Thorwaldsen's masterful stone sculpture in
honor of the heroic Swiss Guard of Louis XVI; the famous covered
WOODEN BRIDGE; and rows of ornate patrician houses lining the
cobbled streets of the walled Old Town. Afterwards shop for
Swiss watches and choose from our optional activities: climb a
mountain by cable car; take a cruise on the fjord-like lake;
sign up for a folklore party with yodeling and alphorn blowing
for a first-hand impression of alpine merrymaking. (BB)
Day 8 Lucerne-Florence, Italy. Enjoy
the majestic alpine scenery on the way to Italian-speaking
southern Switzerland while rolling along comfortably on the St.
Gotthard highway, a miracle of civil engineering. In the
flower-festooned lakeside resort of Lugano take a stroll in the
shade of Parco Ciani's magnificent old trees. Then on to Italy.
Through prosperous Lombardy and across the Apennine Hills reach
Pisa, where you stop for pictures of its amazing Leaning Tower.
Overnight in Florence, cradle of Renaissance art and

Day 9 Florence-Rome. See magnificent
SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry's
heavy bronze "Gate of Paradise," and sculpture-studded Signoria
Square. Also admire Michelangelo's celebrated David in the
GALLERY OF FINE ARTS. Time to shop for Florentine leather goods
and gold jewelry before lunch. Early afternoon departure for a
fast and easy ride on the Highway of the Sun to the Eternal

Day 10 Rome. Sightseeing with your
local guide starts with a visit to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and
SISTINE CHAPEL (arranged next morning if closed today), world
famous for Michelangelo's ceiling paintings including The
Last Judgement. Continue to monumental ST. PETER'S
SQUARE and BASILICA. Proceed across the Tiber for a stroll along
the Via Sacra at the ROMAN FORUM, where Roman Legions marched in
triumph, and finally visit the COLOSSEUM and hear about
gladiatorial combats. Then time for independent activities and
exciting optional excursion possibilities: Tivoli, and an
Italian feast at one of the fine restaurants. (BB)
Day 11 Rome-Venice. Morning break in
peaceful Assisi. Visit the massive 13th-century BASILICA OF ST.
FRANCIS built above the saint's grave. A kaleidoscope of Italian
landscapes parades past the coach windows on the way across the
wooded Apennine mountain range and through the lush plains of
the mighty River Po. Arrive in Venice in time to enjoy an

Day 12 Venice-Innsbruck, Austria. Start
the day in style as you glide by private boat along the Giudecca
canal to meet your resident expert. Highlights of your walking
tour are ST. MARK'S SQUARE, the Clock Tower, the Byzantine
Basilica with its 1,000-year-old gem-studded gold altar piece,
lavish Doges' Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs. Also watch
skilled GLASS BLOWERS fashion their delicate objects. After
lunch leave Italy on spectacular Brenner Pass which leads
through the barrier of the Tyrolean Alps to Austria. In
Innsbruck, a pleasant stroll through quaint medieval lanes to
Emperor Maximilian's Golden Roof concludes the day's

Day 13 Innsbruck-Munich-Heidelberg, Germany.
Via the Bavarian Alps to Munich, Germany's "secret capital."
Your orientation tour features the Olympic Stadium,
1,000-foot-high Television Tower, Nymphenburg Palace, and
Marienplatz with the Old and New Town Hall. Motor from the
verdant valleys of Bavaria into the Swabian Jura, the watershed
between Rhine and Danube. In the late afternoon arrive in
Heidelberg, famous for its red-walled castle. (BB,D)
Day 14 Heidelberg-Amsterdam, Holland. A
special treat this morning. Board an excursion steamer and
cruise along the most scenic section of the Rhine River:
castle-crested hills, terraced vineyards, pretty wine towns, and
finally the Lorelei cliff. During your lunchtime break in
Cologne, visit the awesome twin-spired GOTHIC CATHEDRAL. Then a
passing glance at the Dutch region best known as the locale of
A Bridge Too Far on the way to Amsterdam,
Holland's 700-year-old capital. (BB,D)
Day 15 Amsterdam. A local expert takes
you first to the RIJKSMUSEUM, where you admire Rembrandt's
masterpieces. Visit a major DIAMOND CENTER to appreciate how a
rough mineral is transformed into a sparkling jewel. And to top
it off, cruise aboard a glass-roofed launch through the canals
of Holland's Golden Age. Patrician mansions, gabled facades and
humpback bridges vie for attention. The afternoon is at leisure,
and an optional excursion to Volendam can be arranged. (BB)
