Day 3 London. Morning sightseeing with
a professional London guide includes all the famous landmarks:
Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace and the area's splendid
museums, Knightsbridge with Harrods, the Houses of Parliament
and Big Ben beside the River Thames, and Westminster Abbey.
Highlights are a visit to ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL and the Changing
of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, if held. Afternoon free for
an optional excursion to the Tower of London. An evening cruise
on the River Thames might also be fun. (CB)
Day 4 At Leisure in London. A whole day
for shopping in Mayfair and Knightsbridge, extended walks in
London's magnificent parks, an excursion to Royal Windsor. Later
maybe a show at one of the West End's great theaters? (CB)
Day 5 London-Paris, France. Meet your
tour director and traveling companions and depart London. Drive
through the orchards of Kent and then enjoy an exciting
Hoverspeed ride across the Channel to France. Memories of some
of the fiercest World War I battles come alive on the way
through Picardy and the Somme to Paris, the splendid capital of
a beautiful country. Tonight join your tour director for a toast

Day 6 Paris. See the sights on both
banks of the Seine: Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, Louvre,
Champs-Elysées... For a bird's-eye view take the elevator to the
first floor of the EIFFEL TOWER. Of course you also visit Paris'
greatest treasure, the Gothic cathedral of NOTRE DAME with its
gleaming stained-glass windows. Balance of the day at leisure.
After dark a lively cabaret show might be just the ticket. (BB)
Day 7 At Leisure in Paris. Another day
to enjoy what this extraordinary metropolis has to offer.
Explore the world capital of chic and style at your own pace:
shop for perfume and fancy fashion accessories, take your pick
from many fine museums, stroll through the magnificent parks,
promenade along the Champs-Elysées... Optional excursions are
available to the Louvre, to the lavish Baroque Palace of
Versailles, or to the great impressionist Claude Monet's home in
the Seine Valley. (BB)
Day 8 Paris-Lucerne, Switzerland. A
comfortable ride on the highway skirting Fontainebleau Forest
and the vineyards of Burgundy. Cross the Swiss border near Basle
and enjoy vistas of tidy villages and prosperous dairy farms on
the way to picture-book Lucerne. (BB,D)
Day 9 Lucerne. Sightseeing features the
LION MONUMENT, Thorwaldsen's masterful stone sculpture in honor
of the heroic Swiss Guard of Louis XVI; the famous covered
WOODEN BRIDGE; and rows of ornate patrician houses lining the
cobbled streets of the walled Old Town. Afterwards shop for
Swiss watches and choose from our optional activities: climb a
mountain by cable car; take a cruise on the fjord-like lake;
sign up for a folklore party with yodeling and alphorn blowing
for a first-hand impression of alpine merrymaking. (BB)
Day 10 Lucerne-Venice, Italy. The road
across the mighty barrier of the Alps from the German to the
Italian part of Switzerland is certainly one of the most
spectacular in Europe, peaking on 6,935-foot St. Gotthard Pass.
After a lunch break in the flower-festooned lakeside resort of
Lugano head through lush Lombardian plains to Venice, a
glittering maze of islands, canals, and bridges. Tonight is your
chance to sample the city's fine restaurants. (BB)
Day 11 Venice. Start the day in style
as you glide by private boat along the Giudecca canal to meet
your resident expert. Highlights of your walking tour are St.
Mark's Square and the Byzantine splendor of ST. MARK'S BASILICA,
lavish DOGES' PALACE, and the Bridge of Sighs. Also watch
VENETIAN GLASS BLOWERS fashion their delicate objects in an
age-old traditional manner. Then enjoy Venice at your own pace
or join an optional gondola ride. (BB,D)
Day 12 Venice-Florence. Morning drive
through the wooded Etruscan Apennine Hills to Pisa. Here take
your pictures of the amazing Leaning Tower, 180 feet high and no
less than 16 feet out of the perpendicular. Then on to Florence,
the splendid capital of Tuscany. Time to soak up the timeless
beauty of the city and shop for Florentine leather goods and

Day 13 Florence-Rome. Guided
sightseeing includes magnificent SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE, Giotto's
Bell Tower, the Baptistry's heavy bronze "Gate of Paradise," and
sculpture-studded Signoria Square. To top it off, admire
Michelangelo's celebrated David in the GALLERY OF FINE ARTS. In
the afternoon enjoy views of the vine- and olive-clad Tuscan
hills, home of the popular Chianti wines. Then onto the Highway
of the Sun for a fast and easy ride to the Eternal City. (BB)
Day 14 Rome. Sightseeing with your
local guide starts with a visit to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and
SISTINE CHAPEL (arranged next morning if closed today), world
famous for Michelangelo's ceiling paintings including The
Last Judgement. Continue to monumental ST. PETER'S
SQUARE and BASILICA. Proceed across the Tiber for a stroll along
the Via Sacra at the ROMAN FORUM, where Roman Legions marched in
triumph, and finally visit the COLOSSEUM and hear about
gladiatorial combats. Then time for independent activities and
exciting optional excursion possibilities: Tivoli, and an
Italian feast at one of the fine restaurants. (BB)
Day 15 At Leisure in Rome. Another day
to savor la dolce vita. If you feel like
traveling, you may want to join an optional excursion to
Pompeii, the Roman city both destroyed and preserved by an
eruption in 79 A.D. Tonight your tour director will suggest an
optional farewell dinner with local specialties and wine at one
