Day 3 London. Morning sightseeing with
a professional London guide includes all the famous landmarks:
Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace and the area's splendid
museums, Knightsbridge with Harrods, the Houses of Parliament
and Big Ben beside the River Thames, and Westminster Abbey.
Highlights are a visit to ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL and the Changing
of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, if held. Time in the
afternoon for independent activities. Optional excursions are
available to the Tower of London and to Windsor Castle. Tonight

Day 4 London-Calais, France-Belgium-Amsterdam, Holland.
Meet your tour director and traveling companions and depart
London. Drive through the orchards of Kent and then enjoy an
exciting Hoverspeed ride across the Channel to France, where
your gleaming Continental touring coach is ready. Travel through
Belgium and the Flanders region on your way to Amsterdam,
Holland's 700-year-old capital. Tonight join your tour director

Day 5 Amsterdam. A local expert takes
you first to the RIJKSMUSEUM where you admire Rembrandt's
masterpieces. Visit a major DIAMOND CENTER to appreciate how a
rough mineral is transformed into a sparkling jewel. And to top
it all, cruise aboard a glass-roofed launch through the canals
of Holland's Golden Age. The afternoon is at leisure, and an
excursion to Volendam can be arranged. (BB)
Day 6 Amsterdam-Rhineland, Germany. A
passing glance at the Dutch region best known as the locale of
A Bridge Too Far on the way to Germany. During
your early lunchtime break in Cologne visit the awesome twin-spired
GOTHIC CATHEDRAL. Then the afternoon's highlight: a cruise on
the romantic Rhine, past castle-crested cliffs, terraced
vineyards, and trim, half-timbered towns. Next stop in
Heidelberg, famous for its red-walled castle. (BB,D)
Day 7 Rhineland-Lucerne, Switzerland. A
scenic day! Morning in the lush valleys and pine-clad hills of
the Black Forest, renowned for its cuckoo clocks. On the Swiss
border take your pictures of the thundering RHINE FALLS, then
continue to picture-book Lucerne. (BB,D)
Day 8 Lucerne-Liechtenstein-Innsbruck, Austria.
Sightseeing includes the LION MONUMENT, a masterful stone
sculpture in honor of the heroic Swiss Guard of Louis XVI; the
famous covered WOODEN BRIDGE; and ornate patrician houses of the
walled Old Town. Time afterwards to shop for Swiss watches or
climb lofty Mount Pilatus by rack-railway. After lunch leave
Switzerland to visit the pocket-sized principality of
Liechtenstein, known for its fancy postage stamps. A short drive
to Innsbruck in the Austrian Tyrol, then a stroll through quaint
medieval lanes to Emperor Maximilian's Golden Roof. (BB,D)
Day 9 Innsbruck-Venice, Italy. The
spectacular Brenner Pass leads through the barrier of the
Tyrolean Alps to Italy. Enter Venice in style as you glide by
private boat along the Giudecca canal to meet your resident
expert. Highlights of your walking tour are St. Mark's Square,
the Clock Tower, the BYZANTINE BASILICA with its 1,000-year-old
gem-studded gold altar piece, lavish Doges' Palace, and the
Bridge of Sighs. Also watch skilled GLASS BLOWERS fashion their
delicate objects. Time afterwards to wander at whim or join an

Day 10 Venice-Rome. A kaleidoscope of
Italian landscapes parades past the coach windows on the way
through the fertile plains of the mighty River Po and across the
wooded Etruscan Apennine mountain range. A scenic drive through
the vine-and-olive-clad Tuscan hills, home of the popular
Chianti wines, brings you to the Eternal City. (BB)
Day 11 Rome. Sightseeing with your
local guide starts with a visit to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and
SISTINE CHAPEL (arranged next morning if closed today), world
famous for Michelangelo's ceiling paintings including The
Last Judgement. Continue to monumental ST. PETER'S
SQUARE and BASILICA. Proceed across the Tiber for a stroll along
the Via Sacra at the ROMAN FORUM, where Roman Legions marched in
triumph, and finally visit the COLOSSEUM and hear about
gladiatorial combats. Then time for independent activities and
exciting optional excursion possibilities: Tivoli, and an
Italian feast at one of the fine restaurants. (BB)
Day 12 Rome-Tuscany. An easy morning
drive back north to Florence, cradle of the Renaissance. See
magnificent SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE, Giotto's Bell Tower, the
Baptistry's heavy bronze "Gate of Paradise," and
sculpture-studded Signoria Square. To top it off, admire
Michelangelo's celebrated David in the GALLERY OF FINE ARTS.
Later take a moment to check out the enticing shops with
Florentine leather goods and gold jewelry. Return to your hotel

Day 13 Tuscany-Monaco-Nice, France.
Focus on Pisa this morning for pictures of its amazing Leaning
Tower. Then a scenic drive past a string of Italian and French
Riviera resorts to the principality of Monaco. Here leave the
highway for the panoramic Moyenne Corniche. Before arriving in
Nice take a break in Eze to visit one of the PERFUME FACTORIES
for which the area is famous. Optional outing tonight to the
Casino of Monte Carlo. (BB)
Day 14 Nice-Lyon. Through the
sun-drenched landscapes of Van Gogh's beloved Provence to
Avignon, an important spiritual center in the Middle Ages and
the residence of several antipopes. Take your pictures of the
Gothic papal palace and the bridge of the popular song before
proceeding through the orchards of the Rhône Valley to Lyon, the
country's second-largest city. (BB,D)
Day 15 Lyon-Paris. Follow the valley of
the River Saône into Burgundy, where road signs read like the
wine list of an expensive restaurant. Leave the highway for a
look at the vineyards and villages where some of the world's
most precious wines are produced. After a break in the medieval
center of Beaune continue on the highway via Fontainebleau
Forest to Paris, the traditional climax of a European tour. (BB)
Day 16 Paris. See the sights on both
banks of the Seine: Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, Louvre,
Champs-Elysées... For a bird's-eye view take the elevator to the
first floor of the EIFFEL TOWER. Of course you also visit Paris'
greatest treasure, the Gothic cathedral of NOTRE DAME with its
gleaming stained-glass windows. Balance of the day at leisure
and lots to do. Optional excursions are available to the Louvre
or to the palace and gardens of Versailles (closed on Mon.), and
to celebrate the success of your tour, a lively cabaret show
