Day 3 London. (Sun.) Morning
sightseeing with a professional London guide includes all the
famous landmarks: Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace and the
area's splendid museums, Knightsbridge with Harrods, the Houses
of Parliament and Big Ben beside the River Thames, Westminster
Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral. A highlight is the Changing of
the Guard at Buckingham Palace, if held. Time available to the
Tower of London and to Windsor Castle. Tonight maybe a leisurely

Day 4 London-Calais, France-Brussels, Belgium.
(Mon.) Meet your tour director and traveling
companions and depart London. Drive through the orchards of Kent
and then enjoy an exciting Hoverspeed ride across the Channel to
France where your gleaming Continental touring coach is ready.
Through Flanders head for Brussels, proud capital of Belgium and
the European Union. Your orientation drive focuses on Grand'
Place with its Baroque guild houses and Gothic Town Hall, and
famous Mannekin-Pis. Then join your tour director for a

Day 5 Brussels-Amsterdam, Holland.
(Tue.) Into the Netherlands and past the busy seaport of
Rotterdam to Amsterdam. Visit a major DIAMOND CENTER to
appreciate how a rough mineral is transformed into a sparkling
jewel. Then Dutch-style sightseeing aboard a glass-roofed launch
gliding through the city's maze of canals. Patrician mansions,
gabled facades, and hump-backed bridges vie for attention.
Afternoon at leisure. An optional excursion to the quaint

Day 6 Amsterdam-Rhineland, Germany.
(Wed.) A passing glance at the Dutch region best known as the
locale of A Bridge Too Far on the way to Germany.
During your early lunchtime break in Cologne visit the awesome
twin-spired GOTHIC CATHEDRAL. Then the afternoon's highlight: a
cruise on the romantic Rhine, past castle-crested cliffs,
terraced vineyards, and trim, half-timbered towns. (BB,D)
Day 7 Rhineland-Munich. (Thu.) This
morning stop in Heidelberg, famous for its red-walled castle.
Later enjoy a break in spectacular Rothenburg with its ramparts
and towers, cobbled lanes, and 16th-century houses. South along
the most scenic part of the Romantic Road towards the Danube
Valley and Munich, Germany's "secret capital." Your orientation
tour features the Olympic Stadium, 1,000-foot-high Television
Tower, and Nymphenburg Palace. How about a stein of beer at the
Hofbräuhaus as a fitting nightcap in the Bavarian capital? (BB,D)
Day 8 Munich-Salzburg-Vienna, Austria.
(Fri.) Through the forested landscape of southern Bavaria to the
Austrian border, and on to Salzburg. A pleasant stroll with your
local guide takes you through the historic center of Mozart's
hometown: admire exquisite MIRABELL GARDENS, the Great Festival
Hall, ST. PETER'S CHURCHYARD, and the monumental Domplatz. Then
take time to browse in the shops of the charming Getreidegasse
or visit the birthplace of the musical genius if you wish. In
the afternoon drive along the Danube Valley to Vienna, once the
center of the mighty Hapsburg Empire. For tonight your tour
director will suggest a restaurant with local specialties and a
typically Viennese form of entertainment. (BB)
Day 9 Vienna. (Sat.) Start your
sightseeing with vistas of the Prater amusement park with its
giant Ferris wheel, and the ultra-modern United Nations City on
the banks of the Danube River. Then drive along Ring Boulevard,
pass the State Opera House and stop at famous Heldenplatz for a
picture of the Hofburg Palace, winter residence of the Imperial
Royal Family. During your walking tour of the old town, see the
synagogue and visit ST. STEPHEN'S CATHEDRAL. Afterwards time to
watch the famous midday parade of historical figures at the
musical Anker Clock. Afternoon at leisure. An optional excursion
to Schönbrunn Palace is available. You may want to spend the
evening in Grinzing for a taste of Heurigen and
the merry wine village atmosphere. (BB)
Day 10 Vienna-Venice, Italy. (Sun.)
Scenic Semmering Pass, stately Styrian crossroad towns,
Carinthian lakes and resorts provide the ever-changing backdrop
to today's journey through the loveliest parts of Austria to
Italy. Arrive in Venice in time to enjoy an optional gondola

Day 11 Venice-Lake Maggiore. (Mon.)
Start the morning in Venice in style as you glide by private
boat along the Giudecca canal to meet your resident expert.
Highlights of your walking tour are ST. MARK'S SQUARE and the
Byzantine splendor of ST. MARK'S BASILICA, lavish Doges' Palace
and the Bridge of Sighs. Also watch VENETIAN GLASS BLOWERS
fashion their delicate objects in an age-old traditional manner.
After lunch head for the sunny shores of Lake Maggiore. (BB,D)
Day 12 Lake Maggiore-Zermatt, Switzerland.
(Tue.) Morning free to relax or join an optional excursion to
Isola Bella, an enchanting island known for its extraordinary
gardens. In the afternoon journey north over 6,500-foot-high
Simplon Pass into the Swiss Valais, an area renowned for its
excellent wines and great mountain resorts. To reach the most
famous of them, leave the coach behind in Täsch, and board a
mountain train climbing the last few miles up to Zermatt, a
picturesque cluster of rustic chalets beneath the Matterhorn. (BB,D)
Day 13 Zermatt-Lake Geneva. (Wed.)
Morning at leisure. A suggestion: ride Europe's highest
rack-railway to 10,272-foot Gornergrat for a breathtaking
panoramic view of the Alps. In the afternoon motor through the
vineyards and apricot groves of the lower Rhône Valley to the
shores of Lake Geneva. Here visit CHILLON CASTLE, the
12th-century water fortress immortalized by the poet Lord Byron.

Day 14 Lake Geneva-Paris, France.
(Thu.) Prosperous farms and villages are the last Swiss
impressions as you motor through the rolling pine forests of the
Jura Hills to the French border. Drive through picturesque
countryside to medieval Beaune, capital of the Burgundy wine
area. After a break in its center continue on the highway via
Fontainebleau Forest to Paris, the traditional climax of a

Day 15 Paris. (Fri.) See the sights on
both banks of the Seine: Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine,
Louvre, Champs-Elysées... For a bird's-eye view take the
elevator to the first floor of the EIFFEL TOWER. Of course you
also visit Paris' greatest treasure, the Gothic cathedral of
NOTRE DAME with its gleaming stained-glass windows. Balance of
the day at leisure and lots to do. Optional excursions are
available to the Louvre or to the palace and gardens of
Versailles; and to celebrate the success of this great tour, a
French gourmet dinner followed by a lively cabaret show might be
